Sidewalls, Medianeras

I recently watched this movie called Sidewalls (Medianeras in its original title). I wasn't sure how i felt about it for a little while (as per usual for most movies I watch) but i think i've come to the conclusion that i like it. a lot. i read someone compare it to 500 days of summer, saying it's a spanish version of it and i immediately was like ew and not even (i can sound so intelligent sometimes). Basically, the movie follows two people (both actors I really adored in this movie, and the puppy!) and their lives right up to the point where they meet and they're supposed to be destined to be together at that point in time. I really liked the little details in this movie like the screen shot above. their heads/hoodies are supposed to make a heart shape : ] [well not in this particular shot (she already moved forward)]

anywho, destiny. i think things are destined to happen but it's definitely a choose-your-own-adventure book style.

Another Blog for your viewing pleasure.

So I'm taking Advanced Photojournalism at school this semester and since that seems to be the only blog I'm keeping up w/ right now and actually has my own photos on it, here is the link to it: http://justina-wong.blogspot.com in case you, reader, are actually interested. : ] I have a photo story to produce each week so I'll be updating pretty much every Tuesday night. Been meeting a lot of people and it definitely reminds me of my internship at the Daily Record b/c I get to meet local people, people that I live around, people that are doing what they enjoy, and plus my random trivia knowledge is growing bit by bit. That, my friend, is always a plus.

I forgot the dash between my first and last name and it brought me to some super fob asian girl's site, glitter and all. it scared me almost as much as a porn ad site popping up right when someone looks at your screen.

I wish I had more to talk about. Perhaps I'll use this blog to talk about the assignments I had per week, like what photos I wanted to take but couldn't, who were not so nice [probably will keep that mum. things come back to bite you in the buttocks, especially on the internet. (what is a celebrity sex tape?)], and just general photo issues.

Kicking Ass Mouse.

This is the mouse Hesher fed to his pet snake that kicked ass and punched the snake in the face so the mouse wouldn't be eaten.

funny how things pop up at certain times.

CDs

Whenever I see a cracked CD case, it reminds me of when I used a CD player to listen to music and had to bring CD cases in my backpack for bus rides to and from school. The more cracked CD case indicated the more I listened to the CD.

This also kind of scares me b/c I'm still too young to have memories like this one.

love and marriage love and marriage

just last friday my sister got married! (YAY WOO HOO HOORAHH!, :irish sidekick: )

twas a grand time. thanks to my cousin jack for taking the last two photos since i was in the ceremony and couldn't take any photos.

anywho all this marriage stuff of course got me thinking about my own, and what did i think of immediately weirdly (yet not) enough? being proposed to like this:

it would be so kick ass. hopefully i'll be the opposite of lindsay. haha otherwise.. "wanna just make out or something?" : D

anywho, going to add some more photos to my portfolio website soon hopefully. i need to go to some concerts this fall to add to my music gallery. toodles!

internshipness

So i've been interning for the past 2 months ish at the daily record in morris county. & it's been forreals helpful. i've been treated nicely and equally (as in no coffee-ing and actually given assignments instead of just watching or doing computer editing or something) & i've met a lot of ppl in the community/have a new respect for community newspapers (no offense from before). Anywho, i basically just really enjoy this internship and thought i'd share some photos I have taken for assignments.

This was my first published photo:

went to a homeless solutions apt. complex and used my own camera/flash. it didn't come out too well on the kids, but after some editing, it's not too bad.

this was the same assignment and I just liked the angle and light/shadows

this was the whippany park high prom i had to shoot. i wanted to avoid high schoolers but i got caught w/ a prom assignment. haha it's okay though, cause the place ended up being where my sister's reception's going to be so i got to see the place/see how an event is run there. it's beautiful. & i liked this girl's dress.

this is the first front page photo that got published i think. granted it's a fake plastic baby, it doesn't look too unrealistic when it's just the feet. haha

@ fosterfields family farm, little kiddies with little chicks. cute overload. except i was sweating and it smelled like farm animals, which i'm not very keen towards. this assignment was kinda difficult b/c i had to get the kids' names and their parents' permission and finding the parent that went w/ the kid was difficult at times. especially that one girl at the top. not to mention i wore completely the wrong shoe attire for this assignment. you live and learn ('& then get luv's' would be so pun-y here. haha) .

i wished the boy's hat wasn't covering his face in this photo for the newspaper, but as a photo just for funsies, i like the hat covering.

this little dude was drumming during a rehearsal at School of Rock in Long Valley. this assignment was pretty fun for me b/c it is the closest i've been to live music photography. anywho, this drummer, Jack, was sucha heartbreaker/will be one. haha i can't remember off the top of my head how old he is but he is YOUNG. and really good. trust me. i know my drummers. hahaha just kidding, but he's got real talent. that much i can see.

same assignment. i got this idea after i went outside the room cause my left ear was buzzing. i really like the idea of this photo. the execution wasn't too bad either, as I humbly add. i hope they publish this one but we'll see how much room they have cause i'm sure they'll want faces more than artsy if they can only choose one or two.

this guy was kind of a uppity douche but only a little. anywho, the restaurant's Farm2Bistro and he basically buys as much local produce he can and just cooks them for his restaurant. it's a pretty cool idea. i liked this photo cause it reminded me more as a magazine portrait thing.

this assignment was dreaded but totally had fun when i was there. the only reason why i dreaded it was b/c i had to spend the day outside for like 9 hours originally (stayed for 6). a.) i didn't want to be outside for 9 hours in the hot sun lugging around camera equipment in jeans and boots. b.) i didn't want to get a tan line before the wedding c.) (this came later) i was having pretty shitty allergy attacks. BUT/nonetheless (yes that was redundant, whutever.) i had a really good time and the female farmer (it's a story on female farmers) and her partner were really nice and down to earth (pun intended :DDD hee) despite using a buttload of tissues and sweating balls, avoiding stray cats, and trying not to be sniffed in the crotch by a massive but friendly dog, i had a lot of fun.

now to the first photo, (wow i rambled way more than i intended to) i liked the angle and full frame-ness of it, except it didn't come out that well, exposure-wise. i edited it to the best of my abilities, but her face looks real drained looking. le sigh.

took this as a weather shot at Sunrise Lake in Morristown. just a fun splashy moment.. as i stood on really fudgen hot sand w/ my bare feet. i have to say, good thing i'm a young, asian girl or else some of these parents would have flipped a shizz of someone taking photos of their kids. haha

this was at the morris county policy training ..place haha. it was junior police academy camp week and they had a helicopter come. i just liked this photo despite seeing only part of the helicopter, cause you see the students w/ their last names on the back of their shirts, the helicopter pilot, and the helicopter in one photo w/ no dead space. at least none that i can tell (which i bet means there is. haha)

that's it for now. i should update my portfolio soon w/ some of these. oh the laziness of summer vacation..

Mary and Max

So my great friend at BU, Tesla, told me to watch this movie called 'Mary and Max' last night. At the time, I was in a pissy mood and knew i shouldn't start watching a movie at 12:00 midnight since i was supposed to wake up round 6:00am the next morning. or the same morning. tomatoes, tomahtoes.

i did it anyway.

i didn't finish it til now, but let me just say, this song: 'Perpetuum Mobile' by Penguin Cafe Orchestra that opened w/ the film totally filled my insides w/ happiness and joy. It still is. All I want to do is download this song and play it in my car. it's so happiness.

the film is also really good. it's described as a dark-comedy clayographics film. it's by a man named Adam Elliot who has the same birth date as me and is from australia! a place i wish to study abroad in next spring. he has another film, a short one, called 'Harvie Krumpet' and it's also streaming on Netflix so i will watch it some time. he seems to focus (at least on these two) on ppl with mental 'disabilities.' i'm not sure what to call them. should research that.

anywho 'Mary and Max' (i keep saying max and ruby from the book i had to read in jumpstart haha) is a sweet film that brings you out into idealistic situations yet keeps it grounded to seem like it could really happen. i believe i learned a term for this in philosophy & film but i can't recall it at the moment.

i hope you who are reading this, watch this film sometime. it's worth it.

starting my internship tomorrow. a bit nervous and bit excited. mostly just happy i found an internship and pretty happy w/ this one. starting my productive summer officially. hope to find a part-time job soon to pay for a few concerts i would like to go to in the near future + summer endeavors + fall semester.

listen to the song!
